Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West Senatorial District, today formally flagged off the reconstruction of the Oba Solomon Babayemi/Obada Road leading to Wakajaye Junction in Gbongan. In his remarks, Senator Oyewumi strongly criticized the immediate past administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for abandoning the road for 14 years.
The road, originally constructed in 2008 by the then People's Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Chairman, Hon. Lawrence Adebisi, has long been a critical eye sore within Gbongan road networks, it is central to the town's infrastructure and aesthetic appeals.
Senator Oyewumi highlighted the significance of Babayemi Way, stating, "Babeyemi Way is at the centre of Gbongan and very important to the beautification of Gbongan land." He emphasized that the long-neglected road has been a source of frustration for residents and businesses alike, hampering mobility and development within the community.
"Lack of maintenance and neglect by the previous administration have inflicted unnecessary hardship on our people," said Senator Oyewumi. "Today marks a new beginning for Gbongan's Infrastructural development, this road is not just a pathway but a symbol of progress and commitment to the well-being of our constituents, especially as it got the nod for rehabilitation by the PDP which took the bold step of rehabilitating it in 2008 and was neglected till today by successive administrations."
The flag-off ceremony was attended by community leaders, local government officials led by immediate past Caretaker Chairman Hon. Felicia Adeniran, Commissioner for Tourism and culture, Hon. Abiodun Ojo Fafa, House of assembly member representing Ayedade State Constituency, Hon. Ogundare Folorunso, Irewole Isokan House of Assembly member, Hon. Ibrahim Inaolaji, Special Adviser to the governor on RUWESA, Hon. Jolaye Moshood, Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Festus Ademola, Commissioner at TESCOM, Hon. Oyelakin Sikiru, Hon. Odelade Olanrewaju, Hon Funmiso Babarinde, Hon Yomi Ojosegun ,Hon Apesin-Abiodun Adegoke. While speaking at the event, Osun West Senatorial district Chairman Hon. adesoye Oyetunde who represented and spoke on behalf of the state Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi lauded the passion at which the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olalere Oyewumi is turning the Senatorial District around with capital projects and palliatives to ensure people of the Senatorial enjoy the touches of the PDP government led by Asiwaju Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke and enthusiastic residents who expressed their gratitude for the renewed attention to their infrastructural needs, prominent among them are the Chief imam of Gbongan land, Imam Salimon Atanda Oloyede, Hon Yakubu Adeyemo, OSTMS manager and members from Ayedaade local government.
The reconstruction project is expected to improve connectivity, enhance safety, and boost the local economy upon completion in December this year.
The Senator reiterated his dedication to continuous development and accountability of Osun West, ensuring that such neglect becomes a thing of the past. He called on the community to support the project and stay engaged in the progress of the senatorial district's infrastructure initiatives, he moved from Gbongan to flag off another road project in Ede while construction of similar roads are ongoing in Egbedore, Ejigbo, Isokan, Irewole etc.
