TICC Urges IGP to Probe Unresolved Killings, Redeploy Osun CP
••• Wants Bola Oyebamiji, Remi Omowaiye, Wole Oke investigated for alleged roles in killings of PDP, Accord members
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has watched with deep concern the unfolding developments surrounding policing and security management in Osun State. At this critical stage in our democratic journey, silence is not an option. We owe the people of Osun State a duty to speak whenever circumstances threaten public confidence in law enforcement and the integrity of democratic institutions.
Recent events have raised serious questions that deserve transparent answers. Reports revealing that members of the police tactical team who carried out high-profile arrests were subsequently transferred or redeployed have generated public debate and speculation. At the same time, recent public statements by the Commissioner of Police regarding an alleged assassination plot involving political actors have further heightened tensions across the state.
The Commissioner of Police’s recent public briefing has unfortunately deepened rather than eased these concerns. References to unnamed “influential persons” allegedly implicated in ongoing investigations, without presenting verifiable facts or allowing due process to run its course, have created fertile ground for political speculation, media trials and unnecessary anxiety.
The Imole Campaign Council therefore expresses serious concern that the current approach risks weaponising security narratives in an already politically charged environment.
We are particularly worried that security institutions may, intentionally or otherwise, become vehicles for political contests rather than neutral protectors of all citizens. Such a perception is dangerous for democracy and unacceptable in a constitutional society.
As the Inspector-General of Police visits Osun State, we respectfully urges him to thoroughly investigate series of killings that are yet to be investigated by the CP Gotan in the state.
Prior to the February 2025 incidents, political thugs linked to the APC launched a campaign of terror on armless citizens just for political reasons. In Ikire, the victims of their violent campaigns are Aderemi Abideen Abiodun, Aderonbi Abass, while Ganiyu Gele was killed at the polling unit where he was exercising his franchise in a democracy in Ila. Wole, a vulcanizer in Ife, was brutally gun down by APC thugs on the eve of the 2023 Assembly election. While Rafiu Quadri Abiodun and Elijah Baba Ewe, paid with their lives in the hands of APC thugs simply for exercising their constitutional rights of free association.
Others who were gruesomely killed during the forceful takeover of the local government secretariats by the court-sacked APC chairmen are, Damilare Oloyede– Boripe local government, Oyebamiji Taiwo– Boripe local government, Abdullahi Olawale Akanfe– Ola-Oluwa local government, Bakare Toheeb– Irewole local government, Ismaila Ibrahim– Ilesa West local government and Kasali Adebayo– Ilesa West local government.
Furthermore, owing to the growing erosion of public confidence in the neutrality of the current leadership of the Osun State Police Command, we respectfully call on the Inspector-General of Police to redeploy the current Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, and appoint a new Commissioner whose impartiality will command the confidence of all political stakeholders and the general public.
This call is not made out of hostility toward any individual but in the overriding interest of restoring public trust in policing within Osun State. Confidence in law enforcement is indispensable to peaceful elections, political stability and effective crime fighting.
We also urge the Inspector General of Police to invite the Osun APC gubernatorial candidate, Mr Bola Oyebamiji over the killing of the PDP party agent, Kolade Eluyera, a resident of Ikire, the hometown of Mr Oyebamiji, as he was alleged to have a hand in the killing of this promising young Man.
We must note that the killing of Kolade Oluyera cannot be a mere coincidence, especially given the fact that he is likely to be the Accord polling unit agent in ATILE unit in Ikire, Irewole Local Government, where the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is a voter, as he had served as PDP party agent in the same unit in the past and uncompromising.
In the same vein, we appeal to the Police Boss, to invite and investigate Hon. Wole Oke who was alleged to have ordered the killing of Aderogba Ajayi, an indigene of Esa-oke. The wife of the deceased and residents of the community, who were eye witnesses during the massacre revealed that the Personal Assistant to Wole Oke, Omo Aje, was the mastermind of the killing.
It is also necessary to impress on the Police chief to cause the invitation of Remi Omowaiye for the killings of Ismaila Ibrahim and Kasali Adebayo at the entrance of the Ilesa West Secretarial during the violent hijack of councils on February 17, 2025. Eyewitness accounts alleged that Omowaiye was in the same vehicle with the gunmen who opened fire on the deceased. Several petitions to the Osun Police Command have been ignored as there seems to be a deliberate collusion to make those involved in the murders escape justice.
Similarly, we ask that the IGP order the immediate arrest of a notorious thug, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba and other accomplices such as Agboola Ṣogo, Azeez Tajudeen (Ketu), Suleiman Adebare (Couple), Oyinlola Muideen (Agbara), Ayọdeji Jide, Makinde, Azeez Mecho, who were clearly identified and listed as suspect in the killing of Oladimeji Taiwo and Oloyede Damilare in Boripe Local Government during the forceful takeover of the council. We regret to inform that officers of the Force of the Zone XI while carrying out their lawful duty of arresting the suspects and bringing them to justice were attacked with dangerous weapons and had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Imole Campaign Council therefore calls on all our supporters to remain law-abiding, avoid inflammatory conduct and continue to cooperate with lawful security operations. We remain committed to peaceful political engagement before, during and after the August 15 elections.
